Why Communa Exists

Communa was created in response to a growing sense of disconnection in modern life.

As more people work remotely, socialise online and spend less time in shared public spaces, many towns are losing the everyday places that once brought people together naturally.

Communa is an attempt to rebuild some of that social fabric through hospitality, culture, wellbeing and shared experiences — creating spaces people can return to regularly, not just occasionally.

Spaces With Story

Communa is shaped by a belief in creating spaces people genuinely want to return to — places with warmth, comfort, character and a sense of belonging.

Across the buildings, original features are being carefully restored alongside salvaged materials, vintage furnishings and thoughtfully sourced pieces to create spaces with depth, texture and story rather than uniformity or perfection.

The ambition is to create environments that feel lived-in, welcoming and timeless — where hospitality, design and everyday life come together naturally.

Reconnecting Church Street

Communa brings together a collection of historic buildings across Church Street in Frome — gradually being restored and reimagined as interconnected spaces for hospitality, creativity, culture and wellbeing.

Rather than creating a single-use venue, the ambition is to build a long-term neighbourhood destination that remains active from morning through late night and contributes to the wider social and cultural life of the town.

Each space has been designed to evolve over time through collaborations, local partnerships, cultural programming and community participation.

Designed Around Everyday Life

Communa is designed as a collection of spaces that evolve throughout the day — encouraging people to move fluidly between hospitality, wellbeing, culture and social connection.

Rooted in Frome

Communa is designed first and foremost for local people.

While visitors and guests are always welcome, the ambition is to create a place that becomes part of everyday life in Frome — somewhere to meet, work, celebrate, collaborate, restore and belong.

The project aims to contribute positively to the town’s independent culture, creative economy and long-term social life through thoughtful restoration, local partnerships and ongoing cultural programming.
